Musical fountain at Kadri to come up in six months

Mangaluru: MLA J.R Lobo on Saturday said that the installation of musical fountain with laser show at Kadri park, which is the largest lung space in the city, will come up in six months.

He was delivering the presidential address at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the musical fountain and other developmental works here at the old deer park which is part of the Kadri Park.

Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and district-in charge minister B. Ramanath Rai laid the foundation for both the projects. Apart from the musical fountain, the park will also see a construction of site (quarters) for special police force.

Mr. Lobo said that the musical fountain will be completed in six months. Bids would be invited shortly for its construction through the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), which will take atleast two months and in the four months, the installation of fountain will be completed, he said.

He thanked the urban development minister for approving the proposal and sanctioning the fund swiftly. 

‘Kadri Park development society’

JR Lobo also suggested that the comprehensive development of Kadri Park is only possible, with the formation of an institution. He asked the authorities for form a society under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, which should work on the implementation of development work of Kadri Park. 

In his inaugural address, Vinay Kumar Sorake said that the state government is concentrating on improving tourism in Karnataka. Mangaluru is considered the second important city after Bengaluru. Tourism potential is high in this coastal region, he mentioned. “We will make it tourism destination in the days to come”, he stressed.

Ramanath Rai stressed on the importance of making Manglauru a beautiful and clean city. “In comparison to other cities, Mangaluru is short of park and open space”, he said adding that two more parks will come up in Bantwal shortly.

MLC Ivan D’Souza, MLA Mohiuddeen Bawa, MUDA chairman Ibrahim Kodijal, Mayor Jecintha Vijaya Alfred also spoke on the occasion.

MCC member Rupa D. Bangera, Akhila Alva, DC A.B Ibrahim, MCC Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, MUDA commissioner Mohammed Nazeer, Horticulture Department assistant director Yogish were present on the dais.
