Mangaluru: A teenaged Hindu boy was arrested on Monday for allegedly sending out a series of tweets, claiming responsibility for Sunday’s blast on Church Street in Bengaluru. By evening, the city police arrested him.
The boy Sathish (name changed), who is a first year engineering student, created a fake Twitter account using the name Abdul Khan @LatestAbdul and threatened to plant more bombs in Karnataka.
The user warned to bomb Alva’s College, Moodbidri, and had tagged members of the police force and politicians in these tweets. On Monday morning, he posted a tweet warning of another blast “in two days” and dared the police to nab him.
The post states, “I am Abdul the one behind Bangalore blast yesterday. In 2 days 2 more blast. I challenge catch me if you can. Police my foot”.
Police Commissioner M N Reddi said that the boy is “psychologically-stressed”. He is a 17-year-old Hindu.
Later, DCP central crime branch Abhishek Goyal said that the boy who was tweeting has been found to be mentally disturbed. We are interrogating his parents.
Speaking to newskarnataka.com, Mohan Alva, the chairman of the group of institutions said that college is very safe in terms of security. There are CC TV cameras placed at multiple places, he said.
“There are over 20000 students studying in the college. We have not granted holiday, while a few departments have holidays till January 1. Some have exams and some the usual academic curriculum. We have informed the police about the tweets”, Mr. Alva added.
