“Media should not put pressure on investigation officers”

Mangaluru: Without referring any particular cases, Home Minister K J George asked media not to put pressure on investigation officers and allow them to freely investigate cases.

After inaugurating the police canteen and police community hall here on Tuesday November 25, George said that the Government accepts constructive criticism but there have been many instances when the media have drawn their own conclusion.

 “Such actions bring lot of pressure on investigation officers and affect the process. Media should allow investigation officers to freely investigate cases”, he added.

Filling vacant posts

A total of 22,500 sanctioned posts are vacant in the state, currently. Hence, the government has initiated the process of filling up the posts stage by stage. “The process of appointing for 8,500 posts is in the final stage. Besides, 790 posts of Sub Inspectors will be filled in three years. Of them, 290 will be appointed by this year, he said.

He promised that the state government will construct 11,500 houses for the police personnel in three years.

In his presidential address, Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo requested the minister to extend health insurance scheme to the policemen/women and police canteen facility even after their retirement. He asked the minister to provide an approval for the construction of jail in Mudipu.

Minister B. Ramanath Rai also spoke on the occasion.

New Police Canteen

The police canteen, the second to be opened in the city, will provide household articles around 30 to 40 percent less than the market rate. These articles will be available to Policemen working in Mangalore Police Commissinerate, Dakshina Kannada district and other branches of State police.
