Mangaluru: The members of Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP) on Monday said that the party will continue their protest against the congress for failing to appoint a regular commissioner for Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). The position has been lying vacant since five months.

The protestors were gathered to wave black flags against the arrival of Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, who was supposed to attend a private function in the city. Meantime, the police arrested the protestors.

According to the sources, Vinay Kumar Sorake attended the function only after the members were arrested by police. The protestors were let free after the minister left the venue.

Later, Premanand Shetty, councilor of BJP district unit, who also led the protest, said that the party will continue to wave black flags against the ineffecieny of the congress to appoint a commissioner for the MCC. “We will protest against Vinay Kumar Sorake and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah – whenever they visit the city with black flags – to display our agitation.

“We have shunned the corporation meeting and staged a public protest to pressurize the government about the vacant commissioner’s post. But, the government has been not serious about it. Hence, we the party members have decided to protest against their visit”, Shetty told the media.

Monappa Bhandary, Kishore Kumar, Vedavasa Kamath were among other BJP leaders participated.
