Mangaluru: Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel on Thursday submitted an appeal to Suresh Prabhu, Union Railway Minister to create a separate Mangaluru Railway Division, in the forth coming railway budget.
As of now, Mangaluru division is part of the Palakkad Railway division. It has been a long pending demand of the people to make Mangaluru as a separate division. According to the memorandum submitted to the Union Minister, the MP has stated that the Mangaluru railway division should be separated, keeping Hubballi as the centre, functioning under Konkan Railway.
He also requested the minister to upgrade Mangaluru Central Railway station to a world class centre, as it has 100 years of history. Besides, Subramanya station should be renovated, in addition to the electrification of Mangaluru junction- Subramanya stretch.
Train No. 16575/16576 Mangaluru-Bengaluru express, must go via Arasikere, and the departure time should be extended to 7 from 6.30 for the convienience of passengers, he suggested in the memorandum.
