Mangalore : Fed up with the apathy of the elected representatives and MCC towards their repeated appeal to take up maintenance works in the Kankanady market, the merchants on Thursday July 23 themselves cleaned the market place by organising a Shramadan programme.
Since the past nine months, the merchants in the Kankanady market had been making several appeals to Ministers UT Khader, Ramanatha Rai, MLA JR Lobo and other authorities right from the Deputy Commissioner to the Mayor as well as the local corporators but of no avail. The Kankanady Market Merchants Association had also submitted several memoranda but everything turned into a cry in the wilderness.
Though there was a ray of hope when local MLA JR lobo visited the market place about a year ago and assured better amenities and interlock facility around the lavatory of the market, even that has been an empty promise so far.
Finally, the merchants on Thursday cleaned up the mess in the market place on their own. The Association President Ali Hassan, Secretary Roshan Patrao, Vice President Vasanth, Members Dheeraj, Sattar, Naveen, Zaheer and others participated in the Shramadan.
