Mangaluru: At a time where squabble over bearing damage costs of vehicles and victims dominate the accident spots, friends of deceased in an accident, rained humanity on the family of another killed in the same accident.

Joel Stephan Sequeira (20) who had had flown abroad after completion of his under graduation (UG) was killed in a bike accident in Maddadka, Belthangady taluk in the night hours on February 23. However the accident claimed another life of a man, Manohar Shetty whose family has been suffering from deep penury. Stephan hailed from SDM College Ujire and he was pursuing Bachelor of Commerce (B.com).

The two deaths made families and friends of both the sides reel under intense shock. Here comes the good news. When friends of Stephan visited Manohar Shetty’s family at Maddadka, they witnessed distraught condition of his wife and 5-year-old daughter. A friend Ashwitha (name changed) said “After seeing the plight we developed a spark to do something for the family whose sole bread winner breathed last in an accident.”

She requested that the report should be published under oath that no friends including her will be named in the report as they have done the work with an only aim to ameliorate the plight of the family and not to publicize the effort. Ashwitha further speaking to Newakarnataka.com said they planned to collect money to support the family and five-year-old daughter of Manohar. Following this Stephan’s friends set out on a mission to gather fund from various quarters.

She informed, “We divided in group and went to many students of SDM, as all friends of Stephan studied in B.com stream at the same college”, Ashwitha recounted they received good response from the students for their effort of collecting money. They also contacted public of Ujire to serve the purpose. After their effort, she happily expressed “We collected Rs 2.5 lakh”. The money has been kept as ‘Fixed Deposit’ (FD) in Bank of Baroda.

The wife of Manohar Shetty recently collected the documents pertaining to FD. The friends seem elated over their charity but Ashwitha reiterated they do not want to their name to be public.  When asked why guys were attached to Stephan she lamented that he was caring and loved everyone, while a lecturer, Anish conveyed he was model for other students in the college.
