Mangaluru: The Endo Virodhi Horata Samiti activists staged a protest against the district administration for not implementing order passed by High Court (HC) in favor of endosulfan victims here in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday.
Even as the stipend from health department is still to be released, activists put across several demands, which have not been met by the state government. The activists insisted during the protests to release the pending stipend as soon as possible to end the agonizing financial penury of the families already scarred by the ill effects of endosulfan.
Activist Shridhar Gowda speaking to Newskarnataka hit out at the health department, claiming that the department is depriving victims of benefits, by not implementing the orders of the HC of Karnataka. “Besides stipend, there were 12 benefits the high court had mentioned, while disposing off the case”. None of these facilities had reached the victims so far, he alleged.
The demands mainly include, providing nutritious food for victims, giving permanent compensation of Rs. 5 lakh each, a mobile hospital, a soft nurse to every Village Panchayath to look after bed- ridden victims, speedy distribution of bus passes to those left out of the first list, among others.
