Elderly woman murdered for gold; police nab three

Udupi: Three persons were arrested on August 27, with regards to the murder case of an old lady Girijamma Urala (85) at Manoor.

The police have also seized the stolen gold by the accused.

In the three arrested, the prime accused is Nithin Achari (24) from Manoor, Praveen (25) and Sanketh Gudigar (17) from Kumbashi.

Addressing the press, SP said that the police arrested Nithin first who was her neighbor and later the other two were nabbed from Kumbashi.

On August 20, Girijamma, wife of Radhakrishna Urala who stays alone in the house was murdered during the night hours, in a heed to rob gold by the culprits.

Nithin confessed of the crime. Giving out details he said, “Praveen and Sanketh removed the tiles of the roof and entered to the house, and opened the front door for other two, after which we looted all the gold that was in the house.”

When, Girijamma started creating a chaos, they placed a piece of cloth in her mouth and killed her.
