Moodbidri: In a swift operation, the Moodbidri police have arrested two persons wanted in connection with the theft of 281 kg of peeled arecanut worth Rs 90,000 and electronic goods worth Rs 17000, within 24 hours of the crime. The arecanut and electronic goods belonged to Vincent D’Mello, a farmer from Palkedabailu in Daragudda village.
The arrested thieves have been identified as Dinesh Poojary (28) and Harish Poojary (26) of Moodumarnadu. The prime accused in the case is said to be absconding.
Vincent had stored 14 bags consisting 60 kg arecanuts each in one of the vacant rooms in the house of his brother on Tuesday July 29. However, the same were stolen when Vincent’s son Manish arrived the next day. The locks of the room were also found broken. It is learnt, eight of the bags were missing apart from LG DVD and two speakers kept in the showcase.
Sub-inspector Ananthapadmanabha who took up the investigations gathered hint that the accused were seen moving around in a bike in the area on Tuesday night and subsequently arrested the duo.
