District celebrates Kannada Rajyostava, 30 achievers receive Rajyotsava award

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district administration celebrated the 59th Kannada Rajyotsava on Saturday at Nehru Stadium. As many as 30 achievers from Dakshina Kannada district were honoured with ‘Jilla Rajyotsava Prashasti’ on the occasion.

In his message, district in-charge minister B. Ramanath Rai spoke above various developmental plans being implemented in the district. The district administration has already identified a place in Bondel for a ‘Rang Mandir’, which will come up at an estimated cost of Rs 24 crore. The blue print is ready, he said.

He spoke about the proposed projects such as a new district complex in Padil, mini-vidhana Soudhas in Puttur, Mangalore, Bantwal and Belthangady. Among them, construction works for some have already started, he said.

Rai said the state government has expanded ‘janata darshan’ at the taluk level. Rai said, every Tuesday, Janata darshan will be held in every taluk. On October 29, Janata Darshan in Belthangady was successful, he said.

To attract tourism, the district administration is developing five beaches in the city at an estimated cost of Rs 13.72 crore. He spoke about the newly inaugurated Pilikula Science regional centre and a proposal of constructing Urban Eco park in Pilikula, with an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore.

“The district has been the first in the state to make  two cities kerosene-free. The same will be expanded to other cities as well, he added. For about 2555 endosulfan victims, the government has already sanctioned Rs 4.41 crore, to rehabilitate them.

For minorities, he said the district administration will construct ‘Maulana Abdul Azad Bhavan’ at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore, wherefrom, all the departments of minorities will function under one roof. He also spoke about the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National highway development, by converting B.C. Road-Hassan road into four lanes and concretization of Shiradi ghat at a cost of Rs 155 crore. The work will begin from December, he said.

Earlier, a procession was taken out from Jyothi Circle to the programme venue at Nehru Maidan at 7.45am and district in-charge minister B. Ramanath Rai hoisted the State Flag at 9am.

The fire brigade also showcased the newly imported ‘Bronto skylift aerial ladder’, which is 32 mtr in height. The ladder valued at Rs: 5 Crores, will enable the fire department to defuse fire, upto the height of a 11 storied building. The policemen also displayed the use of two two-wheelers to defuse fire.
