Mangalore: The members of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Mangalore staged protest in the premises of District Health Office (DHO) on Tuesday September 30, urging to establish a health centre and community hospital in the city.
Santhosh Bajal said, “The population in the Jeppinamogary, Kankanady, Alape, Bajal and Kannur, which comes under Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) is more than one lakh. Since most of the families are middle class, private hospitals are not affordable to them. Therefore, we demand a decent health center in those places, he said.
Among the existing sub-health centers, most of them either do not have proper medical requirements or do not function. The nearby private hospitals are too expensive for the poor, he added.
They requested the authority to set up four health centers in the different places and a community hospital.
DK Imthiaz, Yogish Jeppinamogaru, Suresh Bajal and Soudhik Kannur were present.
