Mangaluru: Objecting to the erection of buntings at Kotekar, a group of people threw bottles on another group, which resulted in a communal clash on Wednesday night. Consequently, several persons including three police personnel were injured in the scuffle.
According to the reports, few persons were erecting a flag and buntings on the occasion of annual temple feast at K.C Road junction. Opposing the move, another group, belonging to a different faith, threw bottles on those persons, thus creating communal tension.
As a result, there was tension in Ullal limits for some time. Later, both the groups began throwing stones at each other. Meanwhile, a few vehicles were also damaged and the traffic on the National Highway 66 came to halt for a while.
The police, who rushed to the spot, dispersed the crowd and brought the situation under control. Additional police personnel have been deployed in the region to ensure peace.
Police said that Talapadi residents Dinesh and Madhav were injured in the incident.
Shops set ablaze
Minutes after the clash at K.C Road, as many as 13 petty shops in the Thokkottu junction were set ablaze by miscreants. These shops reportedly belonged to Muslim businessmen and it is learnt that it was done to avenge the K.C Road clash. The shops are completely damaged.
