Bantwal: The Bantwal  assembly constituency unit of the BJP has threatened to launch a severe agitation if the authorities failed to solve various civic grievances  like irregular garbage disposal, erratic power cut and supply of contaminated drinking water.

Speaking to reporters at the Bantwal Press Club, G Ananda, President of the local unit of the party said the MESCOM has been given a seven day deadline to solve the problems arising out of erratic power cuts, while the TMC will be given a three day ultimatum to  clear up the garbage piled up near the BC Road Circle  and also to supply clean drinking water.

If the demands are not fulfilled then the party with the help of public will resort to Rasta Roko and also picket the TMC and MESCOM offices, he warned.

Continuing, he said it was nothing but a tragedy that  the  District Minister who is also the Minister for Ecology and Forests  has turned a blind eye to the problems. He further alleged that untreated  Netravathi river is being supplied to the residents of the town since the past one month.

He also displayed a sample of the contaminated water supplied to the residents  on the pretext of the repair of the Jakribettu water barrage. He demanded that water be supplied through tankers until the repair was complete.

Alleging that there was total anarchy in the Bantwal TMC and that there have been several discrepancies including preparation of an action plan worth crores of rupees without placing it before the council, senior councillor Govinda Prabhu  said already a complaint has been lodged with the DC and the Assistant Commissioner  but of no avail. He also suspected if attempts were made to hush up irregularities.

Another party leader Devadas Shetty said the party was gathering evidences regarding irregularities and would approach the court soon after. He said CC Cameras have not been installed in the Bantwal TMC office as resolved earlier and that several resolutions passed have not been implemented.

He also suggested that all TMC meetings be videographed.

Ramdas Bantwal, General Secretary, Purusha N Salian, Vice President, Janardhana Bondala, Dinesh Bhandari and other party leaders were present.
