Mangaluru: District-in charge B. Ramanath Rai said on Wednesday that the caste census which will commence from April 1 will focus on the education and economic status of the communities.
“The census will play a significant role in preparing schemes for the backward communities, to bring them to the mainstream of society”, Mr. Rai said, chairing a preparatory meeting here in the city.
He said that the survey which will be held throughout the State will look into the education, the financial and the social status of various communities. “It’s a comprehensive survey that will get status of various communities”, he added.
District Social Welfare Officer Santhosh Kumar said, “As many as 57 questions have been framed in the questionnaire. It takes about 45 minutes to collect information from one household”.
Deputy Commissioner A.B Ibrahim asked the officials to ensure the information is collected from each of the household in the district. Mr. Rai asked the officials to conduct survey with utmost responsibility.
