CME on management of early Prostrate Cancer held at AJ hospital

Mangaluru: The department of Urology and Renal Transplantation at AJ Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre inaugurated the CME on Management of Early Prostrate Cancer at their conference hall on March 29.

The guest of honour Prof P Venugopal Former HOD of Urology at KMC, Manipal and KLES hospital in Belgaum – after inaugurating the event he said, “The city has been making a great strides in the medical education sector, and with the fourth center to focus on Urology and make them study the Management of Early Prostrate Cancer is a enormous achievement.”

Dr Sunil P Shenoy, MCh, Dip NB,Urologist delivered the welcome speech while the vote of thanks was given by Dr Prashanth Marla, Medical Director.

The day long CME was attended by several doctors and PG students. The Programme included an overview of Evolution of Mangement of Early Ca.P by Prof Venugopal; Screening for Ca.P – Current Opinion and the Indian Scenario by Dr Arun Chawal, KMC, Manipal; Imaging in Ca.P and Image Guided Biopsy by Dr Raja Kokila, AJIMS, Mangaluru and Dr Anand Venugopal, KMC, Mangaluru; RT for Early Ca.P by Dr Kamalaksha Shenoy, AJIMS, Mangaluru; Radical Prostratectomy Technique by Dr Deepak Dubey and other such learning’s. There was also a quiz and a panel discussion held by the team of the doctors. Newer modalities of treatment like Robotic Prostate surgery were discussed.

Cancer of the Prostate once considered a disease of the elderly male is now increasingly detected in middle age, 45-60 years, thanks to social awareness and newer diagnostic modalities.  Early diagnosis and modern treatment modalities have resulted in high cure rates.
