Mangalore : Inauguration of the Divine Mercy Church at Fatima Retreat House, Jeppu was held here on June 7.
Dr Francis Serrao, Bishop of Shimoga after the inauguration, along with bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza celebrated mass.
After the mass felicitation ceremony was held. Director Fatima Retreat House Fr Eugene Lobo SJ welcomed the gathering.
District Minister In-charge Ramanath Rai said that taking part in the Mass will strengthen communal harmony and help to lead a peaceful life in the society.
Former Union Minister Oscar Fernandes appreciated the hard work and efforts of Fr Eugine along with other Jesuit Priests, in building such a beautiful church.
Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader announced Rs 1 lakh for the church on behalf of his constituency. Speaking on the occasion said, “We all have to march together with peace, harmony and unity. We have to help the less privileged who are in need.”
After the mass a formal cerempny was organised. Former union minister Oscar Fernandes was the guest of honour.
Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza said that he Divine Mercy church will serve the purpose of the people who come to pray.
The contractor of the church building, architect, engineers and electricians were felicitated on the occasion.
