Mangaluru: After its resounding success among commuters on Bengaluru’s chaotic roads, Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader launched two bike ambulances, one each for Mangaluru and Ullal at Circuit House here on Tuesday, May 5.
After the launch, he addressed presspersons and said that at the reason for launching bike ambulances was to cater to casualties faster than ambulance vans as they will usually get stuck in the traffic. The two bike ambulances will be handed over to the MCC and Ullal Town Municipal Council. These two bikes will function in their jurisdiction limits he said.
Malaria control
On Malaria control, he said that a team from Berlin University, Germany, which has already arrived here will make a study and submit a detailed report within six months. The head of the team, Dr Frank said that the survey will be held in association with Wenlock Hospital in the next three weeks adding that the process of research and documentation will take about six months.
Sports Healthcare centre
Another initiative of the health department was anounced by Minister Khader, when he said that the Health Department will soon launch a healthcare centre for sportspersons at Wenlock Hosiptal at a cost of Rs six crore. A
According to him, this will only be the second of its kind in India. As many as 10 specialized doctors will be appointed. Khader opined that the athletes need not undergo traditional surgical procedures for most of the injuries sustained during practice sessions and live matches and they can be treated here. He said that this facility will certainly help sportspersons from poor background.
