Ad showcases caste discrimination, police arrest one

Mangalore: A popular Kannada daily published an advertisement on Thursday stating that a general store was looking for a store keeper. However, this  one column advertisement triggered ire among different sections of the society, for deliberately showcasing caste discrimination.

The advertiser, who was looking for a female store keeper stated that persons belonging to Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste should not apply.

Based on complaint registered by Shekar Kukyadi, the Venoor police arrested Vasanth Poojary, advertiser.

The advertisement mentioned that a general store based in Belthangady wanted a female store keeper. The ad informed that the accommodation was available, if parents permitted her. However, along with the contact number, the advertisement stated that persons from SC/ST should not apply. This particular line in the advertisement, generated anger in sections of the society.
