ASI beats handicapped Wenlock student, ABVP demands apology

Mangalore: Several students of Wenlock Nursing College, Mangalore under the banner of Akhila Bharathiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) took to the street, protesting against the ‘inhuman treatment of police personnel towards their colleagues’.

The students – holding placards and shouting slogans – marched from the premises of Wenlock Nursing College till the Police Commissioner’s office on Tuesday.

The students said on September 27 evening, police personnel led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Srikala came to the campus and hit students with lati, without giving any reason. As a result, two students were injured and are in the hospital. Among the two, one is physically handicapped, according to Ram of Student’s Union.

He said the police not only beat up the students, but used bad words at them. Srikala also threatened to spoil their future, by registering FIR against the students, he said and added that we have the audio clip of what Srikala said and also the photos.

Police sources said ASI Srikala and police personnel had gone to hospital, based on compliant of a woman staff.

Ram said the police should have met the principal and enquired the staff, before hitting at the innocent students. ABVP leader Jayesh P.K demanded ASI Srikala to tender apology, for misusing power.

After the protest, five students were allowed to meet the Police Commissioner. They submitted a memorandum requesting to take proper against Srikala.
