Beltangady: A 19-year-old girl was found dead in a well near her house at Adarsh Nagar in Belalu village here  late night on Sunday July 27.

The deceased has been identified as Shobhita (19), a second year degree student of Punjalakatte Government First Grade College.

It is learnt that Shobhita informed her mother around 6.30 pm that she would be visiting her neighbour, who is an elderly woman and watch television in her house.  This was a routine for Shobhita as she usually would visit her neighbor for watching television.

After watching television, Shobhita told her neighbor that she required a flower plant and left. However minutes after she left it was learnt that she died in the well, said the neighbour lady.

Shobhita’s brother, Keshava Poojary registered a complaint with the town police station. The police have suspected this to be a case of accidental death.

Locals however suspect the cause of the death as her body was not bulged when it was pulled out of the water.

Police who have considered this angle have reportedly questioned a person from the town. However no arrests have been made and the case is under  investigation. The  post-mortem was done at the government hospital in Mangalore.
