Mangaluru: In opposition to the order by the district administration to ban ‘Kambala’, the members of district Kambala Committee will hold a demonstration, followed by a protest meet in front of the DC’s office in the city on November 29 at 11 am.
As part of the protest, over 25,000 people are likely to take part along with at least 150 buffaloes, said Zilla Samiti president K. Bhaskar Kotian, here in the press meet.
He said the Supreme Court has banned bullock cart race i.e. jallikattu and not buffalo race. Animal Welfare board of India’s claim that during the kambala, buffaloes are tortured is not correct. Today, the kambala is not cruel to the animals as it was before, he stressed.
We have approached the elected representatives. But, little has been done. Hence, we have moved the High Court, he said.
