143 couples enter wedlock in Mass wedding ceremony at Dharmasthala

Dharmasthala: A total of 143 couples entered wedlock during the 44th Mass Marriage ceremony organised by Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Temple which was held on Thursday in the temple premises.

The ceremony took place in the presence of Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Hemavathi Heggade and other dignitaries.Dr Heggade opined that elaborate and lavish ceremonies in the name of marriage must be avoided.
Principal Secretary, Backward Classes Welfare Department Shalini Rajneesh Goyal addressing the gathering said that the government provides Rs 50,000 and Rs one lakh for inter caste and scheduled caste marriages respectively, with an aim of bringing about equality in the society.

She opined that the couples who have entered wedlock must lead harmonious life by supporting each other and also toil to provide better future for their children.

Over the last 44 editions of mass marriage a total of 11,800 couples have entered wedlock.Couples from 19 districts across the state had come to take part in the ceremony. One couple from Kerala too took the wedding vows.

Dr Veerendra Heggade and Hemavathi Heggade handed over wedding costumes and mangalsutra, to the couples for the wedding ceremony scheduled to be held in ‘Godhooli’ Lagna. Interestingly, of the 143 couples, 23 were inter-caste, and 26 couples belonged to Scheduled Caste. Poornima from Hassan and Yogish from Hunasoor, a speech impaired couple also entered wedlock during the ceremony.

MLA Vasanth Bangera among other VIP’s was present.

Dharmasthala Kshetra announces Rs 1cr aide in cash and kind to Nepal quake victims:

Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade has announced Rs one crore aide in cash and kind to the Nepal earthquake victims. According to announcements made by Dr. Heggade, Rice worth Rs 50-60 lac will be sent to various rehabilitation centres and cash amounting to Rs 40-50 lac will be handed over to mobile surgical units.
