Mandya: When globalisation is making inroads into every walk of life including the age old Indian rural culture, National Service Scheme (NSS) students by actively participating in slushy paddy fields races (rural sport) attempted to revive the evaporating Indian rural culture.

The NSS camp organised by K Kodihalli Government College for Women in Maddur bore witness to a different form of sporting activities this year getting away from the routine.

The rural sport arranged in slushy paddy fields enthralled the small gathering and created passion among the participants for rural life and culture. The NSS students were seen running with filled water pots placed on their heads in the slushy paddy fields of the village. They also took part in a wide range of other rural sport events and thoroughly enjoyed their planned camp activities. Some of them were happy with their participation alone as it gave them an opportunity to get a taste of rural life and the fun associated with rural sport.

Western lifestyle is adversely affecting our rich rural culture due to which values and ethics are eroding fast, lamented Praja Trust’s D Mohan Kumar, speaking on the occasion. Village heads, NSS camp officials and few other organisation members were present to witness multiple events.
