Inter-religious wedding row: Right-wing groups call for bandh

Mandya: The Hindu-Muslim wedding issue has led to protests by members of Bharatiya Janata Party, Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad outside the residence of H.V. Narendra Babu.

The Mandya East police have registered a suo motu case against the agitators.

H.V. Narendra Babu, pediatrician, fixed his daughter N Ashita’s marriage with Shakeel Ahamed, the son of businessman Mukther Ahamed On April 17, which has led to several agitations.

Terming the incident as a conspiracy to convert Ashita from Hinduism to Islam, the members of BJP, Bajrang Dal and VHP have been protesting in front of their residence since Tuesday morning. They have called for a bandh on April 15.

Meanwhile, members of Janwadi Mahila Sanghatane and Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha met Dr Babu and expressed their support to him and his family.

Mandya police has provided armed security at Dr Babu’s residence following threats from right-wing groups.
