Mandya: A gram panchayath president, who is also a JD(S) leader allegedly attempted to sexually asault a employee at his office in Maddor in Mandya district.
The accused Chandrahas(33) of Basavalingana Doddi, president of Kestur Gram Panchayat was arrested based on the complaint filed by the victim.
The incident occured on Thursday evening and came to light on Friday, after the woman narrated her ordeal to the locals.
In the CCTV footage recovered from the GP office, the accused was seen trying to rape the woman, when she was about to leave the office. However, the woman managed to escape from the accused. On Friday morning, he tried to misbehave with her again. Followng this, she narrated the incident to locals.
Following the complaint by the woman, Kestur police arrested him on Friday evening. Later, produced him before a Magistrate, who remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.
Meanwhile, the Mandya ZP has decided to send a proposal to the government requesting to cancel his membership.
