Mandya: A 22-year-old bride-to-be became the latest victim of Dengue fever after she failed to respond to treatment and died on July 6.

Rekha (22), a resident of Bidarhosahalli village near K M Doddy in Mandya district is the deceased. Daughter of Doddathayama and Chowdegowda couple, Rekha got engaged 15 days ago and planned to get married after Aashada.

Rekha suffering from fever for several days underwent treatment at Shilpa Nursing Home in the town during the last 5 days. When her heath condition became critical, she was moved to BGS Apollo Hospital in Bengaluru, where she breathed her last.

Last rites were performed at her native village. Spell of gloom surrounded the village as the bride-to-be lost her life to Dengue.

People neglect fever in the initial stages suspecting it to be common fever like flu and typhoid. Only when situation turns grim, they rush to hospitals for treatment. In case of Dengue, chances of survival decrease, once the condition becomes critical and fever reaches advanced stage.
