New Delhi/Madikeri: The Supreme Court breathed fresh life into DySP Ganapthi’s death case by accepting a review petition from the family members on January 5.

Accepting the petition, jointly submitted by DySP’s father Kushalappa, brother Machiah and sister Babitha, the SC bench headed by Adarsh Kumar Goel  questioned the state government as to why can’t the case be handed over to the CBI for further investigation?

With this query, the issue has gained prominence again. Now, the state government is bound to reply to the Apex Court during the next hearing its stand.

It may be recalled that DySP Ganaptahi’s body was found in a lodge in Madikeri town under suspicious circumstances. The alleged suicide led to the resignation of minister K J George as the minister was named by the DySP of exerting pressure on him, prior to his death in a television interview. Later the state government handed over the case to Corps of Detectives (COD) which gave a clean-chit to George after investigation.

Minister K J George was re-inducted in the cabinet. In the meantime DySP’s son too had withdrawn from the case citing problems in education.

Parents and deceased DySP’s siblings demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident and had submitted a review petition on December 27.

The Apex Court, which took up the review petition has once again pushed the state government on the back foot giving some relief to petitioners.

Advocate Jayanth Bhushan argued in favour of deceased DySP’s family members.
