Madikeri: Tribal children used to climbing small hillocks in picturesque hill district Kodagu dream of conquering Mount Everest in the near future. In order to achieve the rare feat, children recently underwent a mountaineering expedition at Sangathi Hills in Darjeeling.
Around 30 children including 26 boys and 4 girls from Kodagu were chosen by the department of tribal welfare for the expedition. During the expedition, children climbed 17,000 feet, a rare feat by local standards.
Children are regularly training in Yoga, body fitness exercises and are running a distance of 10 kms daily to achieve their dream, said Charulatha Somal, Zilla Panchyat CEO, briefing about the preparation.
A special tour was organised exclusively for tribal children from the district in order to create the rare record and accordingly selected children underwent training at Darjeeling, revealed Charulatha Somal.
Children have to undergo basic training initially followed by advanced rigorous one later. The 20-day tour under the guidance of trainers Virupaksha Rai and Baramappa Pasagar provided the children necessary inputs and helped increase their confidence, stated CEO Somal.
Children on their arrival from Darjeeling shared their experience at the Fort auditorium. ITDP officer Prakash, Tribal youth leader Sunitha and others were present.
