Tiger attack leaves man battling for life; search operation launched to trace big cat

Gonikoppa: A daily wage plantation worker who ventured to see if the cattle are safe in the cow-shed ended up being brutally injured by a tiger in Gonikoppa on Friday morning.

Kariya, 56, resident of Mallur near Balele in Gonikoppa is the victim.

It is said that at about 2 am on Friday, cattle in the cowshed in the coffee plantation of Adengada Tara Ayyamma were wailing when coffee plantation worker Kariya came out of his accommodation to see what was wrong.

Within no time, the Tiger which was in the vicinity pounced on Kariya and injured him brutally.When other workers too woke up when Kariya raised alarm, the scared tiger took to its feet. A profusely bleeding Kariya was rushed to a hospital in Mysuru.

The Forest officials sprang into action and all efforts to trap the attacker tiger did not meet success throughout the day.

Tamed elephants Abhimanyu, Drona, Krishna from Mathigodu elephant camp were chipped in for the search operation. The entire search team has camped in Mallur forest area and may continue the operations for next two days if the tiger is not found.
