Suja Kushalappa attack case : Kodagu police arrest five men

Madikeri : Police have arrested five persons on January 21, Tuesday night in connection with the attempt on the life of Kodagu BJP unit President Kushalappa.

The arrested are 23-year-old M B Harris a resident of Virajpet, 28-year-old M A Rashik, a resident of Madikeri, 31-year-old H U Aashiq, a resident of Suntikoppa, 31-year-old V Faisal, a resident of Calicut in Kerala, and 48-year-old V M Sulaiman, a resident of Ernakulam in Kerala.

Superintendent of Police MN Anuchetan said on Wednesday January 22, that all the arrested have been remanded to judicial custody.

According to the police officials, the accused opened fire at Kushalappa when he arrived at the sub-registrar office in Virajpet on January 9 around 4 pm. Kushalappa  sustained bullet injuries in his neck. Even his son was attacked with lethal weapons.

The interrogation of the accused has revealed that Harris, the prime accused has confessed to have hatched the murder plot as he suspected Kushalappa’s hand in his brother’s (Abdul Lathif) murder in 2012. Harris had agreed to pay Rs 15 lakh for the murder and had  provided an advance of Rs five lakh to the four other accused, said Superintendent of Police MN Anuchetan.
