Madikeri: The Superintendent of Police warned of stringent action against home stays subjecting tourists to torture in the pretext of offering good services.

Taking part in an interaction program organized by Rotary Misty hills in union with several other organizations, SP Rajendra Prasad gave an account of his own personal experience where he was forced by men linked to a particular home stay at midnight to occupy the same located on the outskirts of the city. Taken aback by the incident, which occurred when he was travelling in a car along with his friend in plain clothes, the man took on his heals after he learnt of my presence, SP Prasad explained.
After reining in elements involved in honey trap and trading women for gain, home stays violating the rules will be dealt in a tough manner, SP warned.

There are complaints of men extorting money from tourists at parking lots at prime tourist locations and the incidents have dented the image of local tourist industry instead of promoting it, SP said.

Speaking on the occasion, Home stay associations secretary K M Karumbaiah alleged middle men of taking commission not only from home stay owner but also from tourists. He also requested the SP to take action against illegal home stays in operation within the district at the earliest.

Drug menace a serious issue

Youth and college students taking a liking to drugs and later becoming addicts a very serious issue and despite taking measures the drug trade is unabated, rued SP and added that in the recent past drugs are supplied from Mysuru side and keeping tab on drug mafia is a big challenge for his force.

Around 400 Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) have been installed in the district so far and more will be in place by utilizing the share of funds offered by local elected representatives, said SP Prasad.

A record number of 800 barricaded have been procured to check traffic and curb illegal movement, stated SP Prasad.
