Somwarpet: Three people were injured in group clashes involving history-sheeters in the town on the night of June 25.

Vikshith, a resident of Janata colony, Ajan and Naushad of Bajegundi village are the injured.

Vikshith registered a complaint against Karim Baig, Asim Baig and Sameer accusing them of assaulting him using sharp weapons near Hanafi Jamia Masjid. Police arrested the trio based on the complaint and later registered a separate case against them based on the complaint lodged by a mobile shop owner named Punith.

While refuelling at a petrol bunk, a gang of eight men led by Prajwal of Belur village assaulted him using rods and soda bottles, complained Naushad. Police registered one more case but failed to trace the accused as they are absconding.

Previous incidents of minor skirmishes between two warring groups led to fresh clashes, when both groups confronted each other near Punith’s mobile shop, it is gathered. Police arrived on the spot and managed to diffuse the situation by chasing away those involved in clashes.

Two Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and one District Armed Reserve platoons are stationed in the town to maintain law and order and prevent recurrence of similar incidents. SP Rajendra Prasad, DySP Sampath Kumar, Circle Inspector Parashivamurthy and Inspector Shivanna are closely monitoring the situation by camping at the spot.

Southern range Inspector general of Police (IGP) Vipul Kumar visited the town to take stock of the situation. History–sheeters are trying to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the area and serious action will be taken against all those involved in the gang rivalry, said IGP Vipul Kumar briefing about the situation.

He sought public support and assured of invoking Goonda Act against the accused for taking law in their hands and extradite them if needed.
