Snapped high tension wire snuffs lives out of 4 elephants

Virajpet: Four wild elephants died of electrocution in Kannangala village of Virajpet, close on the heels of death of two elephants in similar circumstances few days ago.

The elephants roaming freely inside a coffee estate came in contact with a live snapped High Tension (HT) wire only to fall dead within seconds.

Two Elephants aged 28 and calves aged 2 and 6 years respectively died in the incident.

It may be recalled, two wild elephants died in similar circumstances on June 14 in the same area. With this incident the total number of elephant deaths due to electrocution has risen to six.

Forest department officials arrived at the spot to assess the damage.
