Madikeri: Over 45 college students of the prestigious Field Marshal Cariappa college fell victims to a huge recruitment scam.
Ganesh, the main accused who promised jobs in private companies, has been nabbed in Bengaluru. College authorities too have been issued notice in this regard.
Ganesh became a part of the campus recruitment introducing himself as a representative of Accenture firm three months ago. The principal of the college agreed and allowed to conduct campus interview. Over 32 students from Cariappa college and 12 students from Somwarpet college were selected and he had provided job selection certificate too.
Soon after completing final exams, the selected girls, full of dreams, left for Bengaluru on June 23. They stayed at a paying guest accommodation suggested by the Cariappa college lecturers and paid Rs 7,500 each. A lady named Impana started contacting the victims through a fake mail ID about the job. Both the accused asked the selected candidates to undergo 64 different physical tests. Students grew suspicious with them and later one of the candidates realised through her relative working in Accenture that no such job selection was being done.
The panic-stricken girls brought the issue to the notice of the college principal and it was found that the recruitment was fake. Principal immediately informed Madikeri and Bengaluru police.
Following the complaint, Ganesh was arrested by Marathalli police and further investigations are on.
