Madikeri: The Deputy Commissioner of Kodagu inaugurated Ultra modern Culture and Sensitivity facility at the diagnostic centre and a storage system to preserve more bodies at the hospital morgue on August 7.
Sporting a rare smile on the occasion, Kodagu DC Dr. Richard Vincent D’Souza said there was a quantum leap in the level of services at government hospitals as most facilities were available at the district hospitals.
People used to travel to distant places like Mysuru, Mangaluru and Bengaluru in the past to avail healthcare can do so in the district hospital itself now, he added.
He called upon the medical fraternity to develop patient-friendly approach as doctor’s patience and composure alone restores the health condition of sick to a great extent, he said. Talking on assaults on doctors in the recent past, Dr. R V D’ Souza said, one must ensure such incidents do not recur.
DC assured of providing extra land to the KIMS and felt more needs to be done to build additional infrastructure. He assured of all cooperation from the district administration to ensure rapid progress in medical care and service at the district hospital premises.
Speaking on the occasion, hospital Dean Dr. Mahendra explained about the facilities and progress made by the hospital in diverse areas. Around 750 patients enrol daily at the hospital and the hospital aims to provide quality medical care to all, he added.
He explained about the new morgue near the Women and the Paediatric ward which can store 6 bodies at once. The hospital has sufficient anti-venom and vaccine stock to treat patients with snake and dog bites. he said.
