Madikeri: An elephant trampled a college girl to death on March 24 morning, when she was on her way to college along with her brother near Bhadrakola near Ponnampet.
Safana Mustafa , a second year commerce student of Cauvery College is the deceased. The incident took place at 8.30 am in the morning when she was riding pillion with her brother on the way to college.
All of a sudden, an elephant came right in front from nearby bushes and attacked the duo killing the girl on the spot. Brother suffered minor injuries and managed to escape.
Nearby villagers gathered at the spot and demanded a compensation of Rs 25 Lakh to the deceased Safana’s family. Virajpet range Deputy Conservator of Forests Dr. V Shankar arrived at the spot and handed over a cheque for Rs 2 Lakh and succeeded in pacifying the irate villagers. The post mortem was carried out at Gonikoppa Government Hospital.
Gonikoppa police have registered a case .
