Chettalli: An elephant that had lost its way into forest turned violent and created chaos at Meenukolli near Chettalli in Suntikoppa on Friday morning.
It is said that the locals living in the region were fed up of the frequent wild elephant attacks. The elephants had even made a pathway from the forest to gain entry into nearby plantations.
With this easy access, the episodes of rogue elephant attacks on humans and properties became frequent and hence the forest department had blocked the pathway using a gate, but this move yielded no results.
It is said that a local farmer who was dejected over inaction of the forest officials to curb the menace, resorted to distorting the pathway and then locking the gate.
On Friday morning, a female elephant which lost its way into the forest resorted to creating havoc in the region by running haywire on the road. Bikers plying on the road were seen running for life after spotting the violent elephant.
All efforts of the forest officials to send the elephant back into the forest failed and when the density of the vehicles increased on road, the irritated elephant only created more confusion.
Finally, on clearing off its pathway, the elephant ventured into the forest at about 12 noon.
