Court acquits accused trio in Shahul Hamid murder case

Madikeri: Citing lack of proper evidence, the District Sessions Court has acquitted three of the accused in Shahul Hamid’s murder case that took place after Tipu Jayanti celebrations turned violent in Madikeri on 10 November 2015.

Kavan, Bhishma and Ramesh are the prime accused in the case acquitted by the court on August 14, 2017. Tipu Jayanti was organised by the district administration on 10 November 2015 despite facing opposition from various quarters.

Hundreds of people had arrived from different places to take part in the main event on the ill-fated day Shahul Hamid from Siddapur being one of them.

Local VHP leader Kuttappa was killed when tension prevailed near city’s district hospital. Police resorted to Lathi charge to control mob violence and many were sent back to their respective towns after warning.

Shahul Hamid accompanied by few men were on their way back home when assailants shot and injured him at Neercolly near Siddapur. A grievousy injured Shahul Hamid succumbed to injuries in the hospital few days later.

The district police investigated the case and filed a chargesheet against Kavan, Bhishma and Ramesh. The district sessions court judge Pawanesh, acquitted the accused in the absence of proper evidence.
