Madikeri: Senior Advocate A K Subbaiah has said that the all-night protest planned as part of Diddalli protest has been dropped after some assurances from the Chief Minister.
He said that senior freedom fighter Doreswamy has had a conversation of the CM over phone and during the talk, the CM has assured solution to the Diddalli issue.
Meanwhile, in a press conference in Madikeri, Doreswamy said that the state must have an ordinance in place to clear the encroachment of government land by the rich and the elite.
“A task force constituted to identify the encroached land in the state has found that over 12 lakh acres of government land have been encroached. There is a need to clear this encroachment and distribute the land among the siteless,” he said lamenting that though the state has a Special Court to handle land encroachment cases, the Court could not make an impact as the allied bodies like the Corporation, Panchayats and district administrations have been remaining indifferent when it comes to producing documents on encroached land.
The Court was set up 10 months ago and till now, though some cases have come up, the Court has no idea about the details of parties that have encroached land and the extent of land that has been gobbled.
Talking about the Diddalli issue, Doreswamy also demanded the government to make sure that the tribal families that were evicted from Diddalli were given land in Diddalli itself and not anywhere else.
He condemned the district administration’s move of imposing restrictions on entry of outsiders into Diddalli, on suspicion that crisis would be fueled by the outsiders.
“We are not outsiders, as they say. We are Indians and we are also Kannadigas. We have the right to respond to the problems of our people,” he said.
