Karwar: An association from Karwar rescued a mother-daughter duo who were living in deplorable conditions at a house filled with garbage and shifted them to a nearby hospital here on September 27.

Chandrakala Malsekar and her mentally-disturbed daughter were living in a dilapidated house in Pancharashivada in Karwar since 30 years.

Chandrakala’s husband left her few years ago, with her struggling to look after her sick daughter. The house filled with heaps of garbage made them further sick. Janashakti Vedike, a local association led by Madhava Nayak having discovered about their plight, rescued them and shifted them to a district hospital.

Madhava Nayak alleged that the duo had been denied any kind of government facility and no representative ever went to their rescue.

Chandrakala said that her elder daughter had lost mental balance and ended her life years ago. “My younger daughter is also mentally disturbed and her condition has deteriorated since she is refusing to take medicine,” she added.
