Karwar: The central government has an ambitious plan of increasing the number of Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) across the country within next one year. Over the last 70 years, only 4,600 ITIs were set up, but now the BJP government at the centre wants to take the number to 20,000 in a span of mere one year so as to make more and more youth employable, said Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ananth Kumar Hegade.

During his maiden visit to Karwar, after assuming charge as Minister for State, Hegade, on Sunday said that there exists a disappointing situation of ‘so called educated’ being found in large numbers in India.

“Certificates are one thing and capability, skill and talent are another thing. But, in India, today we find these certificate flashing ‘so called intelligent’ lot everywhere. This section rarely has the skill,” he said adding that a life without hardwork is like having a lottery ticket at hand.

Speaking about his political journey, Hegade, who is the five-time MP from Uttara Kannada said that he had made up his mind to quit politics once he gets elected as MP for the fifth consecutive time.

“However, this time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has bestowed upon me greater responsibilities,” he said and added that he had even discussed about his decision of quitting politics with senior BJP leaders, but when the PM thought he was capable of handling greater responsibilities, he has wholeheartedly taken the role as a challenge.
