Karwar: The traditional fishing gathered momentum on September 29, when fishermen netted a huge haul of fish after a prolonged dull season. Fishermen are excited about the huge haul and hope to reap in profits if the favourable trend continues.
For the past two days, fishermen were netting traditional varieties of fishes like Pomfret, Macqurel, Crabs and few more common varieties. As the temperature receded along the coastline, fish moved in large numbers towards the coast line to lay eggs, opined Dr. Shivakumara Haragi, professor at the department of Marine Biology who attributed the huge haul to climatic changes. This feature is common during festive seasons of Dasara and Diwali each year, where fishermen abundantly benefit, he added.
The fishermen are happy with the development and prices are bound to decline in the market to keep consumers happy too.
