Belagavi police nab interstate burglars, recover valuables worth Rs 46 Lakh

Karwar: A gang of thieves involved in multiple burglary cases finally fell into the trap of the Belagavi Police. According to police sources, the gang was involved in more than 29 burglary cases in 10 different police station limits.

Thangaraj Acharya (33), a resident of Mapusa in Goa, Ganesh Khode (24) of Hubballi and Manjunath Raikar (36) of Mundgod were nabbed by the police and valuables worth Rs 45.66 Lakh recovered from the trio.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang had committed burglaries in Mundgod, Yellapur, Ramnagar of Uttara Kannada district, Khanapura, Kittur, Bailahongal of Belagavi district and in places like Gadag and Hubballi in the last several years.

Police recovered 700 grams of gold jewels worth Rs 20.88 Lakh, Silver ornaments worth Rs 80,000 and two cars and bikes valued at over Rs 4 Lakh from the burglars. The gang used to escape in bikes in quick time after committing burglaries.

The gang now in the custody of Belagavi police will be shifted to Uttara Kannada to solve cases within its jurisdiction at a later date.
