Chikkamagalur: The flowers on coffee plants have blossomed in the estates and their fragrance in the atmosphere has brought respite and cheer among the people in the district.
Bharthibailu Kannagere received the highest rainfall at 5 inches rainfall followed by 2.5 inches at Talavara and Kundur. Gutti Hesagodu received 2 inches whereas Pattadooru and Daaradhalli received 1 inch rainfall respectively.
Areas around Koppa, Magundi, Jayapura, N R Pura, Sringeri, Kigga, Aldur, Vastare and Kadabagere received 2-3 inch rainfall during the last few days.
With day temperatures dipping, the rains have brought in some respite to the people in the region. Few poodles were found in the district to remind all of oases in the deserts. The ground water levels had come down drastically with water streams drying up. The taluk administration had seized pump sets owned by people drawing water from natural water resources without permission.
When growers were struggling to sprinkle water on drying coffee plants, the sudden summer showers have come as a blessing in disguise to revive the natural splendour in the region.
The rains may not give total relief as far as drinking water problems are concerned but have given sufficient relief to farmers, coffee growers, say people within the region but are happy to see cattle grazing in open areas and greenery resurfacing after the dry spell.
