Mudigere: Snake catchers perform their work under dire consequences. In such conditions, there is a need for them to make sure that safety measures are in place.
Taking up the cause of snake catchers, Snake Arif from Banakal in Chikkamagaluru has stressed upon need for safety measures. He has requested the forest officer to provide snake Rescue Kit and first aid kit facilities.
In a letter to the forest department, he has said that snake catching is a risky job. Hence all the snake catchers must get the safety measures from the government.
Arif has caught over 400 snakes till date with bare hands, but he says that capturing venomous cobras without safety gears is too risky.
He even helps locals and police in retrieving dead bodies thrown away in the ghat areas.
