Chikkamagaluru: Farmers across the district held a demonstration on Tuesday, demanding the central government to waive off agricultural loans.
Members of Raitha Sangha, Hasiru Sene and other associations held a protest infront of Lead Bank. A protest march was carried out from taluk office during which the members lashed out at the central government.
B S Jairam, President of the Karnataka Growers’ Federation said, “For the last four years, farmers across the state are in distress due to severe drought. Debt-ridden farmers are resorting to end their lives but the central government is not concerned about our plight. They should waive off all the farm loans.”
Karnataka Farmers Association Vice President Manjunath aleged that the central government could waive off loans of business sharks but not the farmers.
KGF Secretory D M Vijay said, “Till now central government has not released any compensation for crop loss. The state government has waived off loans already and central government too should come to the aid of farmers instead of playing politics.”
