Chikkamagaluru DC promises support to distressed farmers

Chikkamagaluru: Deputy Commissioner G Sathyavathi on Sunday said that the district administration will be holding awareness programme to prevent farmer suicides.

Addressing a meeting at DC’s office, she said, “Farmers are pillars of the nation and should not end lives for any reason. In the district as many as 50 farmers have ended life till 2015, and till December 2016 over 70 farmers have ended lives. In Kadur taluk itself nine farmers have committed suicide. If a farmer commits suicide entire family has to suffer. District administration is with the farmers.”

The DC further urged the farmers to bring their problems to the notice of the district administration. She also directed officials to disperse compensation and other government facilities to the kin of deceased farmers in the district.

The DC Said that a committee has been formed in connection to farmer suicides and the committee will look into the cases and provide compensation. The kin of the farmer will get Rs 2000 monthly pension and children will get free education.
