Chennai: While it is yet uncertain when the by-polls in Tamil Nadu will be held, actor-politician Kamal Haasan, on Wednesday, his 64th birthday, announced that his relatively new political party Makkal Needhi Maiam is ready to contest in 20 Assembly seats.
Speaking to reporters, Haasan said that they are ready to contest in the by-polls even though no one is sure when or if they will be held.
When asked if his party was ready for the political battle, he said that they had already filled over 80 percent of the field level posts in 20 constituencies.
Of the 20 vacant seats in Tamil Nadu, 18 are a result of the disqualification of the legislators who are loyalists of AIADMK leader T T V Dinakaran, under the anti-defection law. Two others were vacant following the deaths of Tiruvarur MLA M Karunanidhi and Thiruparankundram MLA A K Bose.
Haasan, who formed his party to fight against corruption, has not spoken of any possible alliances with any other political party, but last month, said that he was willing to ally with the Congress if they cut ties with the DMK.
