Chennai: In a freak accident former national racing champion Ashwin Sundar and his wife Niveditha were charred to death after the BMW in which they were travelling caught fire at MRC Nagar here today.
As per reports, the car caught fire after it hit a roadside tree. Sundar and his wife were charred to death inside the vehicle.
The incident was streamed live on Facebook and has gone viral on social media.
Police officials believe that over speeding may be the reason behind the crash.
Though fire and rescue services personnel immediately rushed to spot it took them around half-an-hour to douse the fire.
Sundar had won the national title in car racing and two-wheeler events on several occasions. His wife Niveditha was a doctor in a private hospital in Chennai.
